Written in French. Binding is square and hinges are fully intact. All edges gilt though heavily tanned. Title page is two tonal, in red and black, and very faded endpapers appear to have been red at one time. Text is unmarked on warmly toned pages; a few pages are detached though all are present and last 60 pages appear to be damp stained at the bottom edges, though this does not obscure any text. Leather boards and spine are heavily rubbed and corners are bumped; spine's head & foot edges are chipped, showing sewn binding underneath and gilt title is heavily tanned.
