George Routledge & Sons, undated. Hardcover. 8vo. Fair. Item #66302
378ppg. An inscription dated 1894 on the contents page, probably printed this year or 1871. There are three stamps from previous owners, two on the second loose blank and one on the bottom of the contents page. Text is otherwise unmarked on warm toned pages with all 76 illustrations from Arthur Hughes. Tan floral endpapers show a patina and a few discolorations along the edges; back endpaper is torn halfway across from the fore edge. Blue cloth boards illustrated with a gilt woman's head and maroon embossed detailing over the front board are tanned and show general surface wear to cover cloth including rubbed edges and bumped corners. Spine is decorated with gilt and maroon lettering, still bright despite tanning and heavy fraying and chipping to the head & foot. Front cover board is very loose and becoming detached at the head; the title page is partially detached but still connected to front board.
